Swamped with your writing assignments? Take the weight off your shoulder!
Each student is required to create an annotated bibliography based on reliable and valid research on a contemporary social problem. A bibliography is a list of citations of resources such as books and articles.
An annotated bibliography not only lists each of the sources but also describes and evaluates them. These descriptions and evaluations are called annotations. The purpose of this assignment is for students to gather and evaluate sources of information about their particular chosen topic.
Specific guidelines to follow when completing this assignment:
ï 5 sources of various types (books, articles, government or educational websites, etc.). Students should not use .org websites as sources. At least three of the sources must be scholarly (peer-reviewed articles from academic journals).
ï APA formatting for all citations (double spaced, alphabetical order by author’s last name).
ï Complete annotations of 100-200 words for each source.
ï Correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Each annotated bibliography entry should include:
ï A description of the source, including its main purpose/thesis
ï Comments on what you see as the value and significance of the source as contributing to a better understanding of your chosen topic
ï Connections to other sources in your annotated bibliography (does the source support other research? Does it contradict other sources?)
ï Considerations about any possible shortcomings or bias in the source
ï Conclusions or observations reached by the author
ï Any conclusions or observations reached by you
